Another little secret: George and Pete don’t have the entire show memorized. Parts of the show are scripted, and the script is run during the show on the teleprompter. We recently started using a computerized version. Below is the control unit, where the script is loaded and the playback controlled.
George and Pete see the script via a tv monitor hung below the cameras, and reflected thru a one-way mirror in front of the lens. You know those funny glass plates you see in front of the president when he gives speeches? Same idea.
