Odaiba is an interesting collection of malls, museums, and businesses on an island in Tokyo Bay. There’s enough here to easily spend a day.
The architecture of the buildings itself is interesting – the buildings are very futuristic. Even the public art is interesting. The island is fairly large – walking around to see everything will take some doing. So, there’s a dedicated automated train – the Yurikamome – that takes people around the island, and connects with public transit back on the mainland.
Sites we personally visited:
Fuji TV building
They have a free tour of the building. You don’t get to see much, but the building itself is pretty cool. There is a funky observatory (inside a sphere) that does require a ticket, that we didn’t check out.
Decks Tokyo Beach and Aquacity
These are 2 separate malls right next to each other. Decks has a 3-story arcade, Tokyo Joyopolis, with a variety of sophisticated games and rides.
National Museum of Emerging Science
Very cool museum with exhibits on biology, computers and networking, and space.
